CM Shri Sai issues stern orders against opium cultivation

Strict action taken against those involved

Raipur, March 13, 2026 / After cases of illegal opium cultivation surfaced in the state, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai expressed strong concern and took a strict stance.

Shri Sai asserted that cultivation of illegal narcotic substances will not be tolerated under any circumstances and directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure strict action against those involved.


Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said, “The state has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal narcotics and the strictest legal action will be taken against those found involved in such activities.”


In compliance with the Chief Minister’s directions, the Commissioner, Land Records, Chhattisgarh has issued instructions to all District Collectors stating that a comprehensive survey of sensitive and potential areas in their respective districts should be conducted. Collectors have been directed to complete the survey within 15 days and send a detailed report to the government with a certificate under their signature, clearly stating whether illegal opium cultivation is taking place anywhere in the district
.

Recently, cases of illegal opium cultivation have come to light in some places in the state, on which the administration has taken prompt and strict action. In Samoda village of Durg district, three accused have been arrested in connection with illegal opium cultivation. During this action, a large number of opium plants were seized and destroyed, and a case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act. The illegal encroachment was also removed using a JCB machine.


Similarly, in Turreepani (Khajuri) village under Korandha police station area of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district, a joint team of the Revenue, Police and Forest Department conducted an operation and exposed illegal opium cultivation being carried out on approximately 1.47 acres of land. During the action, about 18 quintals and 83 kilograms of opium plants (worth approximately Rs 2 crore) were seized, and two accused were arrested and booked under Sections 8 and 18 of the NDPS Act.


The state government has made it clear that anyone involved in the cultivation, storage, transportation or trade of illegal narcotic substances will face the full force of the law.
