Chhattisgarh officials participate in ECI national conference on media and communication


Raipur, July 4, 2026/ Officials from Chhattisgarh, including Assistant Chief Electoral Officer, Additional Director of Public Relations Department and District Public Relations Officers from all 33 districts, participated in the second one-day National Conference for Media and Communication Officers organized by the Election Commission of India (ECI) at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi, on July 3.

The conference brought together more than 260 participants, including Media Nodal Officers, Social Media Nodal Officers and senior Public Relations Department officials from 16 states and union territories.

Addressing the conference, Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar said every action of the Election Commission of India is guided by the Constitution, election laws and the transparent guidelines issued by the Commission from time to time. He urged media and communication officers to remain vigilant against misinformation and fake content circulating on social media, emphasizing their vital role in countering false narratives by disseminating accurate and factual information. He added that the record voter turnout in the recent Assembly elections reflected the strong faith of citizens in the electoral process.

Election Commissioner Dr. Vivek Joshi, in his address, highlighted the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI), deepfakes and misleading digital content. He called upon officials to address these challenges in accordance with the Commission’s guidelines and stressed the importance of engaging young voters through Electoral Literacy Clubs.

Meanwhile, the day-long conference included technical and practical sessions on communication strategies during different stages of the electoral process, electoral roll management, polling and counting procedures, ECINET, constitutional and legal provisions, media management, press release writing, effective use of social media and tackling misinformation.

Participants also attended practical demonstrations of the electoral process, visited the exhibition and media corner, and interacted with officials from states that recently conducted elections to exchange best practices in election management and public communication. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session with Election Commission officials.
